Due to budget cuts, parts of southern Clarion County may have less police protection.
According to ExploreJefferson.com, New Bethlehem Borough Police Chief and the New Bethlehem Borough Council President said the police department regrets to inform the public that residents, businesses, crime and accident victims in some municipalities will have to rely upon 9-1-1 and the Pennsylvania State Police. The affected areas are:
Armstrong County: South Bethlehem Borough, Mahoning Township, and Redbank Township (including Oak Ridge)
Clarion County: Sligo Borough, Redbank Township (including Fairmount City and the County Fair Grounds).
Those residents will have to call the State Police or call 9-1-1 for emergencies. These changes are scheduled to go into effect at midnight on December 31, 2018, and will continue until service agreements are approved with the individual municipalities.
