Another phone scam shorts victim out of $4,100.
Last Wednesday around 11 in the morning, a 76 year old man from Falls Creek received a call from a person claiming to be with a phone company the victim had previously used, and, according to the State Police in DuBois, the victim gave the man access to his computer via an app download. That’s when, according to authorities, the suspect logged into the bank account of the Falls Creek man. Investigators say the perpetrator darkened the victim’s
screen, added fraudulent deposits, then said he accidentally added $2,200 instead of $200 and that it had occurred twice and requested the victim send $4100 to a PO box in New York.
Police say the man sent the cash only to find out the money in his bank account was fraudulent.
State Police remind the public not to give out personal information and don’t send cash or gift cards as a payment to an unknown person.
