Punxsutawney Area School District saw a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases last week.
According to the Punxsy Spirit, Superintendent Thomas Lesniewski said the district stayed under the threshold in both buildings.
Lesniewski said the biggest increase occurred at the high school but they stayed below the state’s recommendations in terms of what’s allowed for a building that size. He said a positive case can lead to many more students having to quarantine by rule of being a close contact.
He said students and staff are still carrying out the mitigation efforts in order to keep everyone as safe as possible and the cleaning measures they put in place at the beginning of the year are ongoing.
