Two state Republican senators said yesterday that Governor Wolf has sabotaged the upcoming referendum question concerning how long an emergency disaster declaration can last.
During a news conference yesterday, Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman and Senator Kim Ward voiced their displeasure with how the Wolf Administration is wording the question that will appear on the ballot. They believe the wording has been altered to scare voters into rejecting the amendment.
One amendment is to limit the length of a governor’s disaster declaration to 21 days and extensions would require passage by both the PA House and Senate. The other amendment allows the general assembly to terminate a disaster declaration without having to present it to the governor for his or her signature.
Senator Corman said that they will not try to get the wording changed, but will take a different approach to the ballot question.
Corman says Senate Republicans may pursue legislation to have the Legislative Reference Bureau write future ballot questions.
