Two Punxsutawney fire companies responded to a brush fire Saturday afternoon on Woodland Avenue Extension.
Central and Elk Run worked to extinguish the fire that began along the side of the road in Bell Township. According to the Punxsy Spirit, the owner of the property was burning debris from the recent windstorm when the fire moved toward the woods. When firefighters arrived, the fire had moved into a small gully with trees.
Elk Run assistant chief, Josh McAfoos noted it was good that this fire didn’t occur on Friday during the windstorm.
Punxsutawney firefighters were also called to a washer fire at East End Laundromat Saturday afternoon. When they arrived the smoke from the belt had dissipated and firefighters assisted with ventilating the building.
The laundromat did not close and no injuries were reported in either incident.
