The Punxsutawney Area School District will receive nearly $9 million in new COVID-19 relief funds.
According to the Punxsy Spirit, the money designated for PASD is part of the $4.9 billion being issued in the third round of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funding through the American Rescue Plan Act. The DuBois Area School District will get over $10 million and Brookville Area School District will receive over $3 million in relief funding. Each school will receive an amount proportional to the federal Title I-A funds received in 2020 under the Every Student Succeeds Act.
School districts and charter schools must use at least 20 percent of this money to address learning loss and the social, emotional and academic needs of underrepresented students. Schools can use the rest of the funding for a variety of things including food service, professional training, technology purchases and more.
