A Coalport man was jailed following a fatal house fire Friday night in Coalport Borough of Clearfield County.
According to GANT News, Clearfield State Police charged 36-year-old Jonathan Gallaher with attempted homicide and other arson related charges. The Glendale Fire Department was called to the house just before 9 pm Friday in the 600-block of Main Street in Coalport. A male and female homeowner escaped the residence but Matthew Troxell of Patton died in the fire.
On scene, state police learned that Gallaher had been inside the house prior to the start of the fire and was later found at a bar a short distance away. Gallaher allegedly told police he was in the house to buy drugs. An argument reportedly occurred between Gallaher and the male homeowner and lead to Gallaher leaving the residence. The female homeowner told police that shortly after Gallaher left, the house started to fill with smoke.
Investigators determined that there was deep charring and fire damage on the staircase which was determined to be the point where the fire was ignited.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 28.
