The Punxsutawney Memorial Library recently opened the lobby for browsing with no appointment needed. Jen Soliday said COVID-19 mitigation efforts are still in place. Computers and microfiche usage are still by appointment only.
She noted that the wifi is now password protected and to stop at the front desk to ask for the password. The password will change from time to time and can be obtained at the front desk. Jen said that the spring programs have ended but the summer reading program will be starting soon and that activities will be held virtually and outside – weather permitting.
The library has recently started an e-newsletter. If anyone would like to sign up to receive it they can visit the library’s website – punxsutawneylibrary.org. She said the monthly publication is also available for viewing on the website.
The Office of Commonwealth’s Library also recently announced a broadband internet accessibility project for undeserved communities.
Jen explained that libraries must be chosen to participate they can not apply to be part of the project – she said it is not a project of affordability but accessibility. She noted that the majority of the county does have access to a broadband provider. She said it is not likely that the Punxsutawney Library will be chosen to be part of the project.
Jen said that many libraries are still not participating in inter-library loans at this time. But she noted that a patron’s library card can still be used at other library’s in the county and materials that can’t be found at the Punxsutawney Library may be found at another library in the area.
