The Penguins yesterday signed Zach Aston-Reese to a one-year contract with a $1.725 million salary cap hit. The deal enables the Penguins to avoid salary arbitration and could lead to a longer-term contract for the forward, who scored six goals with nine assists working mostly o the third line last season.
General manager Ron Hextall yesterday addressed the Penguins’ goaltending, a day after firing goaltender coach Mike Buckley. He said the team simply felt they needed a change to help young goalies Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith.
Hextall said he expects new goaltending coach Andy Chiodo to help Jarry recover from his disastrous first-round playoff series loss to the Islanders
Training camp is about seven weeks away. The first Penguins exhibition game is September 27th at home against Columbus.
