The Mayor of Punxsutawney Rich Alexander held a meeting yesterday to announce his proposed solution to the shortage of volunteer fire fighters, police and EMS by building a first responder training facility locally.
The Punxsutawney Spirit reports, it could be constructed on the site of the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department’s firing range and used by several other departments in the region. The published report continues saying Alexander is seeking grants to fund the project, which would have the latest technology, and could cost between $300,000 to $800,000; whereas, similar projects on the east half of the Commonwealth have a cost upward of a million dollars.
The next phase is putting together the members of a board tasked with deciding on construction.
