Unredacted records reveal that the Wolf administration hired private law firms to represent high-ranking officials, including chiefs of staff and unnamed witnesses, in various state and federal investigations.
According to a SpotlightPa article, one firm also represented a top aide in a state ethics probe. Initially, the governor’s office claimed attorney-client privilege to redact details, but a court sided with Spotlight PA, forcing the disclosure of unredacted invoices. These showed $367,538 spent on legal services from 2019 to 2021 but left key questions unanswered. Invoices revealed representation for former Chief of Staff Katie McGinty in a 2018 state grand jury investigation and unnamed witnesses in federal probes.
Another investigation focused on Deputy Chief of Staff Yesenia Bane, who faced ethics allegations related to her husband’s lobbying but was not charged.
