Some U.S. Steel workers are asking President Trump to allow Japan’s Nippon Steel to purchase the company.
Steelworkers drafted a letter to the president this week requesting that he block the proposed sale of the company to Cleveland-Cliffs, U.S. Steel’s Ohio-based competitor. Instead, they prefer the company to be bought by Nippon, a deal former President Biden blocked in his final days in office.
Meanwhile, the union that represents American steel workers, United Steelworkers International, has celebrated Biden’s decision to block the deal.
