W. Jean Stamler, 93, of Brookville, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
She was born at home at Canoe Ridge, Indiana County on August 7, 1931, a daughter of the late Frank J. Gaston and Alta Margaret (Casaday) Gaston.
Jean graduated from Marion Center High School. She was a devout Christian and loved her God above all else. The opportunity to visit the Holy Land was a key point in her life.
On March 2, 1951, she married the apple of her eye, Daniel Earle Stamler. They made their home in Sykesville and enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage, prior to his death on February 17, 2019. Jean was very involved in Sykesville Legion Auxilliary, she was on the board of directors for Sykesville Ambulance and supported the local library as well. For nearly thirty-five years she worked at Smyers Convenience store in Sykesville.
In her down time she loved to cook, bake, knit and was an avid reader.
Traveling to Montana with her husband each year for his fishing trip was something she enjoyed doing, she would sit on the bank and read a book while he fished.
She never let the grass grow under her feet, she traveled to many places like France, Germany, Luxembourg. Anytime her daughter and granddaughter wanted to take a trip, her bags were always packed and she was always ready for the next adventure.
Her love for her family, both immediate and extended was immeasurable. Uttering an unkind word about anyone never happened, she was a true example of unconditional love for everyone she encountered.
She is survived by three children, Kerry Alan Stamler of Sykesville, Chris Hannah of Brookville and Daniel Stamer II of Brookville; six grandchildren, Adrienne Stamler, Kelcey Jean Stamler, Chad (Alyssa) Hannah, Anne Corrine Hannah “Corrie” (Tony) Doran, Chris Stamler, and Bryan Stamler and fiancé Jaidyn; nine great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son in-law Chad Hannah, two brothers, Ken and Milton Gaston; four sisters, Grace Guidash, Olive Moore, Clarabelle Bowers, Marie Fetterman; and Phyllis Lopez, who was like a sister to her.
Friends will be received from 2-3:30 p.m on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Shumaker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 at the funeral home, officiated by Nancy Basile.
