Health workers in Western Pennsylvania say they are seeing a surge in flu and respiratory illness cases right now.
Doctor Amy Crawford-Faucher with Allegheny Health Network says the care system had nearly 80 patients hospitalized with severe flu infections as of Tuesday, compared with only 28 patients at this time last year. Allegheny County is reporting roughly 7,200 confirmed flu cases between September 29th and February 1st. That number is about 1,700 in Westmoreland County.
