ExploreClarion.com reports Smith’s blood alcohol content was .256%—over three times the legal limit—when he crossed the center line on Route 322 and hit 53-year-old Tammy M. Zacherl’s car head-on, killing her. A third vehicle then struck Zacherl’s car. Smith, who has seven prior DUI convictions, is charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI and other offenses.
He is in Clarion County Jail on $100,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing set for February 25.
