Ronald Lee Newcome, 72, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian after a long illness.
He was born in Punxsutawney on February 15, 1953, a son of the late Orvis Lorn Newcome and Alda Marie (Geist) Newcome.
Ron was a 1971 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.
On December 17, 1988, he married his sweetheart, Kimberly Smith, they enjoyed thirty-six years of marriage. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
Ron worked for many years as a driller for Senex Explosive, prior to his illness.
He previously enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He made many gifts of wood for his family and friends. Gardening was a favorite pastime and he continued to garden as long as he possibly could. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his granddaughter, Andrea Angel Smith, she was Pappy’s girl. He also enjoyed his dog Gizmo, “Gizzy.”
In addition to his wife, Kim, he is survived by one son, Andrew (Robin) Smith of Walston, his beloved granddaughter Angel; one sister, Shirley (Al) Brothers; two brothers, Orvis (Patty) Newcome, Jr. and Donald (Pam) Newcome; one sister in-law, Dawn (Bill) Yount, all of Punxsutawney; one brother in-law, Burton Smith of Harrisburg; many special nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeremiah Newcome.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery, Frostburg.
