Francis Paul Petroff, 73, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born in Punxsutawney on June 06, 1951, a son of the late John Paul Petroff and Gladys Evelyn (Hall) Petroff.
Paul was a 1969 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Era from 1970 to 1974. His time in the service shaped his strong sense of duty, resilience and values he carried throughout his life. He worked at various jobs over the years, finishing his working career as janitor at Punxsutawney Area High School.
Above all, Paul cherished time with his family, he liked to spend time with his brothers and their families and always enjoyed a good game of Texas hold’em. In his quiet time, he was an avid reader, he also enjoyed watching all the Pittsburgh Sports teams and Penn State Football.
He is survived by two brothers, John E. Petroff and James (Rona) Petroff, all of Punxsutawney; one sister, Angela (Larry) Dyer of Tempe, Arizona; one sister in-law, Karen Petroff of Punxsutawney; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chuck Petroff.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.
His ashes will be interred at Calvary Cemetery.
