Former Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Greg Millen has died at age 67, the NHL Alumni Association announced.
Drafted in 1977, Millen became the Penguins’ starter by 1979 and helped lead them to a strong playoff showing in 1981. That offseason, he signed with the Hartford Whalers after the Penguins’ GM was unreachable during contract talks. Millen went on to play 14 NHL seasons with six teams and later became a prominent hockey broadcaster in Canada. He is survived by his wife and four children.
Rookie Frank Nazar and Ilya Mikheyev led the scoring for Chicago, while Rickard Rakell netted the lone goal for Pittsburgh. With another disappointing season, the Penguins are turning their focus to the future, highlighting young talents like Ville Koivunen and Rutger McGroarty.
Coach Mike Sullivan acknowledged the tough stretch, saying, “We’re not where we want to be.”
