A. Marie Powell, 76, of Oliveburg, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home early Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.
She was born on October 07, 1948, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Bernard Brothers and Minnie Emabel (Hughes) Brothers.
On October 1, 1966, she married her high school sweetheart, David R. Powell. They enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage and raised a loving family that were their pride and joy.
She was a member of the Rochester Mills United Presbyterian Church.
In her earlier years she worked as a saleswoman and catalog clerk at J.C. Penney’s in Punxsutawney. She and her husband David owned and operated the former Budd’s Auto Parts and had DaMar trucking.
Marie enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren participating in truck and tractor pulling throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and New York.
She and her husband spent the last eleven winters, in Laughlin, Nevada as snowbirds. They met many new friends, they loved the warm weather and enjoyed going to the casino.
Marie was an avid bowler at Groundhog Lanes on a Monday night league and Wednesday afternoons.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Patty (Dave) Conoran of Punxsutawney, Pam (Duane) Carr of Punxsutawney, and Peggy Strohm and fiancé J.R. Rossey of Corsica; Marie adored her four grandchildren, David Ellenberger and fiancé Lauren Kachmar of Punxsutawney, Tiffany Swanson and fiancé Ryan Koch of DuBois, Heather and Hailey Strohm of Corsica; great grandchildren, Caleb and Carter Swanson; step grandchildren, Darren and Ainsley Carr, Isiah and Leaonna Carr, Brylan and McKenzie Conoran; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents and a son in-law, Ken Barrett.
At Marie’s request, there will be no viewing. Arrangements are private and under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Frostburg.
Memorial donations may be made in Marie’s memory to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or Lisa’s Ladybugs.
