Senator Joe Pittman introduced legislation today that would allow non-profit organizations like fire departments and veteran’s groups to hold small games of chance online during the Coronavirus crisis.
The bill would allow small games of chance like tip boards and raffles to be run on the internet or mobile applications, and the bill would allow payment to be received electronically via credit or debit card.
Many non-profit groups have not been able to hold events like cash bashes and basket raffles due to the Governor’s disaster declaration connected with Covid-19. Licensees would need to verify age and residency for those taking part in the games, and the legislation would end 30 days after the governor’s Covid-19 emergency declaration comes to an end.
Pittman said in a news release that fire companies and other groups have had to continue to work while their funds were depleted, and the price of items go up. He said it is “only fair that they receive the support they deserve in recognition of their efforts.”
