Background checks stopped nearly 2,500 people who tried to illegally purchase a firearm in Pennsylvania during the third quarter of this year.
Pennsylvania State Police are reporting they conducted 210,697 background checks with the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS).
Authorities say the system prevented 2,374 people from obtaining a gun and more than 1,400 of those denials were referred to police or the ATF for follow up. Thirty individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants at the point of purchase.
The Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) is used by county sheriffs, municipal police and licensed firearms dealers in Pennsylvania in order to determine an individual’s legal ability to acquire a license to carry firearms, or, to obtain a firearm through a purchase or transfer.
