In Indiana County Court today, Judge Thomas Bianco will conduct another pretrial conference for 26-year-old Matthew Bartlebaugh, the Glen Campbell man charged with shooting his father to death on New Year’s Day this year.
Bartlebaugh is accused of killing 43-year-old Jerald Bartlebaugh as Jerald slept at the family home at Graham and Morris streets. Matthew, who has a long history of mental illness, called 911 to report that he had killed his father and, after he was taken into custody following a police standoff of about seven hours, he confessed again. The standoff ended when police lobbed flashbang grenades into the home and Bartlebaugh surrendered.
Jerald Bartlebaugh’s girlfriend, Angela Bruce, was also sleeping in the bed, but was unharmed.
President Judge William Martin conducted a pretrial conference on August 18th at which Indiana County Public Defender Geoffrey Kugler asked for a psychiatrist to examine Bartlebaugh. Judge Martin granted the request two days later.
Today’s conference is scheduled for 1:15 PM.
