New details have emerged regarding the exoneration of 34-year-old Jay Philliber of Punxsutawney who had been accused of stealing $350,000 from an elderly woman.
According to Indiana Gazette, The Jefferson County Area Agency on Aging looked into the relationship between Joanne Garrett and Philliber, her power of attorney, and exonerated him.
The byline story notes, Philliber’s defense attorney said the large amount of expenses that came under question were spent for Garrett’s benefit and noted that Philliber was like family to Garrett and has been listed as a beneficiary in her will.
The attorney said the case against Philliber came to a halt when the distant relative that had contacted authorities about the expenses under question did not show up to testify.
