Wrestling district championships will be different this season for the Punxsutawney squad, as the program has seen the majority of its wrestlers choose to opt out of the postseason due to COVID-19 concerns.
According to the Punxsy Spirit, Punxsutawney coach Eric Eddy said throughout the season, a number of factors affected the wrestlers in this decision-making process, including a recent temporary shutdown of activity for the program due to positive cases, quarantines, and other outside factors.
Eddy said he would support the wrestlers’ decisions no matter what they chose and noted his surprise that they were able to wrestle at all this season, given the on-hand nature of the sport.
