State Representative Brian Smith and State Senator Cris Dush are among a group of local lawmakers that have voiced their opposition to tolling on any part of I80.
PennDOT announced Thursday that nine bridges across the state including one each in Clarion and Jefferson counties are being considered for the department’s Pathways Major Bridge P3 Initiative. As part of the program, the bridges would be rebuilt and paid for by tolling.
According to ExploreJeffersonPA.com, Smith and Dush both cited the harmful effects that could be felt by residents and area businesses brought on by tolling.
The lawmakers urged residents and businesses to make their voices heard as part of the public input process in the next few weeks. The lawmakers said they will be actively engaged with PennDOT to convince the state agency that these two projects should not be part of the initiative.
