IUP is planning to alter or eliminate some clerical positions to help the university’s finances.
According to WCCSRadio.com, in the fall semester, IUP had announced its plans to reduce its workforce by about 161 non-faculty positions, both union and non-union, by the end of the 2021-22 fiscal year. Approximately half of them would be eliminated by the end of this year, with the rest at the end of next year.
IUP says, AFSCME leadership was notified in February that due to financial challenges the university brought on by lower enrollment, the university needs to reduce the number of union clerical positions by 50 full time-equivalent positions. Thirty two positions will be converted from full-year status to nine-month status.
Assuming some leave due to attrition, the university is looking to eliminate another 38-and-a-half full-time equivalent positions, most of them clerical. The university is in the process of notifying affected employees, and those eliminations or changes will take effect May 7th.
