Punxsutawney Borough Council voted to purchase a new police car and to advertise for bids for timbering an area of land owned by the borough at a special meeting Monday.
According to the Punxsy Spirit, Police Chief Matt Conrad asked for council’s approval to purchase a new police car to replace car No. 29, which has more than 114,000 miles on it. Conrad said he intended to purchase the complete police package for a Dodge Charger at a cost of just over $30,000.
The motion was approved 5 to 1. The council member that voted no said he believes the police department needs to downsize the cars it has.
Conrad said the car won’t be ready till July and they’re averaging more than $80,000 miles per year, which works out to be just more than 220 miles per day.
