Students in the Punxsutawney Area School District have an opportunity to take a summer driving class.
The Punxsy Spirit reports that once a Punxsy student has a permit or license and completes the safety education class, they are eligible to sign up for Behind-the-Wheel. The class consists of 18 days when two students go out with a certified instructor to gain driving experience. Once students get their permit and finish the class they can receive their unrestricted license at 17 ½ instead of 18. Car insurance discounts can also be applied for those who qualify.
Students can sign up for Behind-the-Wheel- during their study hall, activity period, or stopping by the high school office to pick up a form.
