The Pirates open a three-game series against the Reds tonight at PNC Park. Dillon Peters (0-0, 3.38 ERA) starts for the Bucs against Cincinnati’s Wade Miley, who is having a great season at 12-5 with a 2.89 ERA. The pregame airs on Fox Sports 100.9 FM at 6:10.
The Pirates’ pitching staff continues to be rocked by injuries. Steven Brault was placed on the season-ending 60-day injured list yesterday with a recurrence of the left lat strain in his back that kept him out from March to August. Brault finishes his year 0-3 with a 5.86 ERA after having the injury flare up in the second inning on Friday against the Nationals.
Reliever David Bednar is not on the injured list but was unavailable over the weekend with discomfort in his side.
Starter JT Brubaker is eligible to come off the injured list tomorrow, but most likely will not as he deals with inflammation in his right shoulder for the second time in a month. As of now, the Pirates have only four healthy starters.
The Pirates yesterday claimed righty reliever Enyel De Los Santos off waivers from the Phillies. He was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 26 appearances for the Phils this season as he shuttled back and forth between the Majors and Triple-A.
