The Punxsutawney VFD’s quick response knocked down a fire within minutes.
The Punxsutawney Spirit reports, on Saturday morning around 3:30, a call came in for the blaze of a three-story seven-unit apartment building along West Mahoning Street. Engine 30 from Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company aggressively attacked the second floor and were able to knock down the bulk of the fire, then other crews arrived and assisted in snuffing it out.
Temps were reported at -8 degrees and according to the published report, no residents were injured; however, one firefighter was taken to the hospital and released with minor injuries. The State Police Fire Marshal was called in to investigate. While the cause is unknown at this time, the estimated damage is around $235,000.
