Daniel W. Mosier, of Anita, went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2025, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital after complications from a stroke.
Mr. Mosier was born on December 25, 1938, in Anita, the son of the late William J. and Alberta C. (Stahl) Mosier.
Mr. Mosier was a lifelong resident of Anita and was the 3rd generation operator of Mosier’s Store after his father’s death in 1959 until he closed it in the 1970s. He then worked in the construction industry first with Interstate Amesite (IA) for over 20 years, and then with Stelco Electric until he retired. He continued to operate the Mosier Store building as a multi-tenant rental business, which houses the Post Office, until 2016.
Mr. Mosier always kept busy and loved the outdoors. He could always be found doing yardwork, repair, and handyman projects, and woodworking in his well-equipped shop during the day, and solving world problems with his friends at the local coffee hangout in the evenings. He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was a Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan.
He was a 50+ year member of John W. Jenks Masonic lodge and a former Scottish Rite Mason.
Mr. Mosier’s health started to fail over the past 5 years and his daughter, Dana was his primary caretaker and was assisted by several other caretakers as the need increased over the years.
Surviving relatives include one daughter, Dana (Doug) Mosier-Kramer of Anita; one son, Bill (Ashley) Mosier of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, Riley, Libby, Berkleigh, Marisa and husband Josh, and Daniel; two sister in-laws Judy Mosier of Johnstown and Helga Bish (Ohl) of Maryland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mosier was preceded in death by his wife Beverley (Bish) and his older brother John (Jack) Mosier; in-laws, Louise Rowse, Claribelle Bish, Clyde Bish, Howard (Betty) Bish and Gene (Mildred) Bish.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, and from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday, officiated by Pastor Doug Wolfe.
Interment will follow at Anita Community Cemetery.
