The “Essential Heroes Thank You Ride”.
It will be Friday, May 8, 2 pm., starting at the PAHS High School parking lot.
The ride, sponsored by SPLASH, was created to thank and recognize all essential workers that have stayed opened and serviced the community during the Covid 19 Pandemic. SPLASH, along with the community, appreciates the dedication and determination these workers have had through these extraordinary times. We realize they are putting their lives on the line and taking huge risks for the safety, service and well-being of our community.
At this time of the year, SPLASH is usually asking the community for donations to support the opening of the pool. But this year, with everything being uncertain regarding the pools opening, SPLASH wanted to do something positive for the town- a town that has for years supported the George C. Brown Community Pool. “SPLASH wanted to give back to our community.”
SPLASH has been getting more involved in giving back to the community in many ways. They are actively participating in this year’s Chamber Festival by sponsoring the “kiddie corner”. And hopes to offer more community support events in the future.
So, this is just another way, SPLASH wanted to do something community-minded and positive for the benefit of our local area.
The main idea of the ride is to create a convoy of vehicles that will drive by many of the essential work places showing the owners and employees our love and support!
We are asking the public to join us!
SPLASH thought it would be fun to have families decorate their vehicles with signs saying ‘thank you”, and join our ride to the various essential work locations, beeping their horns, and yelling out their car windows – “thank you!” With people basically trapped in their homes, with not much to do, it will be a nice way for kids and parents to actively participate in a community event for others.
Toby Santik, local borough manager jumped right in supporting SPLASH’s efforts with this event by helping to organize and contacting the local police station and fire companies asking them to participate. “Mr. Santik was excited to help and loved the idea! Toby has always been a SPLASH supporter and advocate.”
PAHS principal and superintendent, Jeff Long and Dr. Thomas Lesniewski offered the use of the high school parking lot to start our ride. Both were very supportive in our efforts to have the ride and thank the essential workers with this event.
To follow Governor Tom Wolfe’s ban, SPLASH asks everyone that wants to participate to pick up the map and directions which will be published in The Punxsutawney Spirit and meet at the high school on May 8th at 2 PM. Once you arrive at the PAHS parking lot, we ask everyone to find a parking spot and wait for the lead vehicle to start the ride and then follow accordingly.
We ask that no one gets out of their vehicle at the parking lot for any reason to make this a safe and healthy event. No open face to face congregating will be permitted.
NOTE: There is no pre-registration for the ride. Just show up in the PAHS parking lot at 2pm on May 8th. REACT is going to help us with traffic. And we are asking that the public not go to the essential businesses and stand outside. The social distancing is crucial.
