After three postponements, the preliminary hearing for a Glen Campbell man accused of killing his father on New Year’s Day this year is finally scheduled today before District Judge Guy Haberl.
Matthew D. Bartlebaugh, who turned 26 years old two weeks ago, is charged with two felonies: criminal homicide and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person.
Bartlebaugh is accused of shooting to death 43-year-old Jerald Bartlebaugh on the morning of January 1st as Jerald slept in his bed at the home on the corner of Graham and Morris streets in Glen Campbell. The elder Bartlebaugh’s girlfriend was also in the bed but was unharmed.
Matthew Bartlebaugh was taken into custody at about 10 AM after a standoff with the State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT). He’d refused to come out when troopers commanded him to, and only surrendered after flashbang grenades were into the home.
Authorities said upon his arrest that the suspect has suffered for years from mental illness and they’d been called to the home on other occasions. Bartlebaugh is being held at the Indiana County Jail without the possibility of bond. He will be represented at his 9:30 AM video hearing by attorney Taylor Malcolm Johnson.
