New details are coming to light in that attempted homicide case in New Bethlehem.
Clarion State Police, the Punxsutawney State Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Services Unit say a 36-year-old Brookville man, Matthew Duane Atcheson, allegedly, slit the throat of a New Bethlehem man early Sunday morning.
According to a criminal complaint, Troopers rolled to Desperado’s Bar on Broad Street in New Bethlehem around 12:30 a.m. Sunday (October 28), for a physical assault which included the near fatal injury to Damen Dubrock, of New Bethlehem.
Investigators found excessive blood at the scene and they recovered a “Buck” knife – a black and gray handled folding knife.
Troopers watched surveillance video footage and it confirmed witness accounts that Atcheson, argued with bar employees after being asked to leave on several occasions, had an altercation with his wife and then attacked Dubrock after he told Atcheson to calm down. Atcheson ran back out of the back exit of the bar.
DuBrock was taken to Clarion Hospital, stabilized and sent to Allegheny General Hospital; he was last listed in critical condition.
Court documents indicate 5 charges were filed against Atcheson including Attempted Homicide/Murder 1, two counts of aggravated assault, the following charges were filed against Atcheson on Monday. (October 29) He remains lodged in the Clarion County Jail on $250,000.00 monetary bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, with Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey C. Miller presiding.
