IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll and IUP Director of Athletics Todd Garzarelli issued statements this morning regarding the decision by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference to suspend competition in the Fall of 2020.
“This was not an easy decision to make. Athletics adds a great deal to university life and to the life of our community. Our alumni and friends, including our home community, are incredibly supportive of our student-athletes and our athletic program.
I will sincerely miss cheering on our Crimson Hawks this fall, and I am disappointed for our student-athletes who were hoping to be competing this fall. But, this is the right decision to make to keep our students, our coaches, and our prospective spectators safe and healthy.”
~ Dr. Driscoll
“I have a heavy heart for our student-athletes and coaches after today’s announcement from the PSAC. The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff members is of the upmost importance, and we appreciate the PSAC and the conference presidents for their care and thoughtful approach to the fall semester.
These are uncertain and challenging times, but as we move forward it is vital that we continue to take care of our student-athletes. We will commit to do our due diligence on all things related to the COVID-19 pandemic and provide for our student-athletes to ensure their long-term success.
I look forward to our safe return and excited to again cheer for our IUP student-athletes.”
~ Todd Garzarelli
